Academic computer systems support, position split between overall UW-Eau Claire campus and Department of Computer Science
Learning and Technology Services A full-time fixed term professional academic staff position is available with the title of Information Processing Consultant. RESPONSIBILITIES: ? This position is responsible for assisting with the analysis, design, specifications, selection, implementation, and debugging/troubleshooting of software related to UWEC academic curriculum. The position is responsible for the configuration and maintenance of desktop and laboratory computers and for assisting with the maintenance and support of the campus networking infrastructure. ? Projects include development of software for the computer labs, the maintenance of student labs running Windows and Macintosh operating systems, implementation and support of the lab environment maintenance system, Desktop software deployment system and other curricular specific software in the campus environment. Responsibilities will continue to change as the campus 'advances to new technology. Projects will often be prescribed by the student-based Information Technology Commission and by requests from faculty. ? The position also acts as the primary LTS-CS liaison. The employee will be responsible for all computer and software support for the Department of Computer Science, as well as assistant to the Department Chair in budgeting and rotation. Projects include the setup and maintenance of Linux/Unix servers as well as other curricular network resources. ? The position works closely with the Technical Services, Help Desk and Desktop teams to insure that the networking and server systems are adequately supported. The position reports to the Manager of Systems Management & Configuration and performs under general supervision. QUALIFICATIONS: The following qualifications are required for this position: - A Bachelor?s degree from a regionally accredited institution - System administration experience with at least one of Windows or Linux/Unix - Good customer service skills The following qualifications are strongly preferred for this position: - A Bachelor?s degree in computer science, information science, or a related field - Systems administration experience with both Windows and Linux/Unix - Experience in an academic environment - Experience supervising students or other employees The following qualifications are considered an asset for this position: - The ability to enhance the diversity of the unit - Experience with virtualization, networking, software installation and/or software distribution in a large environment - Experience in preparing an ongoing budget APPLICATION PROCEDURE: To apply, send a letter of application; transcripts; and the names of three references or three letters of recommendation.
